Contact lens solutions are made for particular care routines and may not be suitable for every lens or wearer. Some products clean and disinfect reusable lenses, while others serve different purposes. Use the solution recommended for your lens and follow the label and professional instructions. Do not treat saline as a disinfectant unless the product specifically says it is intended for that purpose, and never use water or saliva on lenses or cases.
Follow the required soaking time and use fresh solution every time. Do not top off old solution, mix products, or transfer solution to an unlabelled container. Keep the bottle tip clean and avoid letting it touch your fingers, lenses, case, or other surfaces. Close the cap promptly and store the bottle as directed. Check the bottle’s expiry and discard it according to the product instructions after opening or if it becomes contaminated.
If you develop irritation after changing solution, remove your lenses and wear glasses while you seek advice. Some people may be sensitive to a product, but discomfort can have other causes too, so do not self-diagnose or switch repeatedly. Ask your eye care professional which alternatives are compatible with your lenses and whether a different care system is appropriate. Pain, pronounced redness, light sensitivity, discharge, or changed vision needs prompt assessment rather than simply trying another solution.
