Travel can disrupt the routines that make contact lens wear safe. Pack enough of your prescribed lenses and care products for the trip, plus extras in case of damage or delays. Bring glasses as a backup and keep lens supplies in a clean, accessible place. If you use reusable lenses, take the solution and case specified for your routine. Do not transfer solution into an unlabelled container or assume that a different product is interchangeable.
Follow the same hygiene habits away from home: wash and dry your hands, keep lenses away from water, and do not sleep in them unless that schedule was prescribed. Airplane cabins and unfamiliar indoor environments may feel dry, but do not respond by wearing lenses longer or using unapproved drops. Keep supplies protected from extreme heat and follow product storage instructions. For international travel or a long stay, check that you can obtain the exact prescribed lens if needed.
Make a plan for time changes and replacement dates before leaving, especially if you use reusable lenses. Keep prescription details and your practitioner’s contact information available, without relying on a last-minute order. If a lens is lost, damaged, or uncomfortable, use glasses rather than an unprescribed replacement. Pain, redness, light sensitivity, discharge, or altered vision should be assessed promptly, including while away from home. Travel is easier when eye care is part of the packing checklist.
